What is a VPN is and why you NEED one!

Updated: Jun 11, 2022

A Virtual Private Network (VPN) is a service that protects your internet connection and privacy while surfing the web.

The aim of a VPN is to hide your online activity, which is exactly what you want to achieve in this case. VPNs from VPN providers like NordVPN are often used to guard against hacks on public networks, but they are also handy for hiding your personal data and IP address even at home.

Some reasons for protecting your IP are….

1. Security on Public Wi-Fi

As convenient as public Wi-Fi is, it comes at the expense of security. When sending emails or surfing the web on public Wi-Fi your internet traffic can be tracked and possibly leave you at risk. A VPN will solve this issue by protecting you when using untrusted networks.

2. Security and data privacy

When you are away from the office or even if you work from home, A VPN is going to provide you with an extra layer of security. Internet Service Providers (ISP’s) are known for tracking their customer's activity and selling information to 3rd parties. An example of this would be selling your internet history to marketing companies in order to advertise to you. A VPN will protect you from the prying eyes of your ISP.

3. The bottom line

Ultimately a VPN is going to secure your private and personal information and will help prevent your data from getting in the hands of third parties. You also have the ability to lift Geo-blocked content by using a VPN tunnel that’s connecting you out of the country.

Finally, keep in mind that malicious actors are changing rapidly, and viruses are becoming stronger by the year. With each passing day, criminals are getting more sophisticated; therefore, connecting to a VPN is an essential step to keeping your network traffic encrypted.
